Finding Peace in the Little Things

Some days, life feels like a quiet beach—soft, still, and easy to rest in. Other days, it’s something I have to actively search amid the noise of life. I’m learning that peace isn’t always big or dramatic—it’s often found hidden in small things, quiet moments.

To remind myself that sometimes the darkness helps us appreciate the light, I’ve started a “peace list”—a collection of the little things. The small things that calm my spirit and help me feel grounded when everything else feels like a storm.

🌱My Peace List

🌱Early morning light through the window

The gentle reminder that a new day is here, a day of new opportunities.

🌱A song that hits just right

Music has a way of settling my heart when words fall short.

🌱The sound of waves (even from a phone speaker)

There’s something about the ocean—constant, powerful, but calming.

🌱Journaling with no pressure—just pen, paper, idea, and a prayer

Sometimes I just need to pour out what’s swirling inside.

🌱A cup of coffee and five quiet minutes, maybe even 10

It could be tea, coffee, cocoa... it’s less about the drink and more about the pause.

🌱Scriptures that feel like anchors

Verses I return to when the waters rise. (Psalm 46 is a favorite.)

🌱A walk in nature, listening to the birds, seeing the blooming flowers, the greenery

My thoughts stop racing and my mind can declutter. Sometimes a short walk can reset mindset.

🌱Doodling, painting, or creating without rhyme or reason. Just free flowing

Letting my hands move helps settle my mind.

🌱Looking through photos of family

I still even have these printed—it's so fun to share when you’re with family and remember the moments together. Remembering joy keeps me believing in joy ahead.

🌱Spending time with my daughter, my sister, and my mom—my anchors of hope

Whether it’s karaoke, cooking dinner together, or playing board games, with my daughter or thrifting, having lunch with my sister or smply calling my mom on the ride home from work, these are the moments remind me what love and joy look like in the everyday. These three are always there for me—no questions asked, and sometimes, no words needed. Just presence. Just love. I don’t take that for granted.

🌱Reminding myself: I don’t have to have it all figured out

No matter how much control I think I have or need to have, I have to remember I don't. I have to give it to God and take one day at a time. Just one breath at a time. Trusting in Him.

Some days, peace doesn’t come easily—but it’s there, waiting, even in the middle of the waves. This list isn’t magic. It’s just a gentle reminder that serenity often lives in the details.

Maybe today, your peace is a deep breath.

Maybe it's a

bird singing at your doorway

that first sip of coffee

a quiet prayer

a phone call

being with someone you love....

And knowing you’re not alone.

I hope this inspires you to make a peace list of your own—and come back to it whenever your soul needs a little stillness and maybe even add to it.
