Crossing Bridges: Faith in the Unseen
There it is another bridge—steel and concrete suspended over choppy waters below. A bridge to cross. A transition to navigate. A moment where I must place one foot in front of the other without the comfort of seeing what awaits on the opposite end. Knowing once I'm there I must keep going, there's no turning back.
Lately, my life feels like a series of bridges. Pathways that I need to cross but, fearful because I don't know what is on the otherside.
Bridges can look menacing sometimes. You're high, you're exposed and you're suspended with nothing but air beneath and the waters far below. The over thinking and anxiety start. What if I fall? What if my car stalls midway? What if the structure isn't as sound as I thought?
I cross over many literal bridges. But these days I think how perfectly they mirror my emotional landscape. From where I stand, I can't see what waited on the other side. Morning fog rolls, further obscuring the other side. All that could be seen was the first few feet of pathway before it disappeared into the mist.
Somedays that's just like life. We don't always get to see what lies on the journey ahead. Somedays we just have to step forward with limited visibility.
This is where faith enters, quiet but supportive. Faith whispers take the first step, gently reminding us we're not alone. Our faith tells us that the God who orchestrats the flow of the waters below also holds our futures, no matter how uncertain it feels. Luke 1:37 reminds us - "Faith does not make things easy it makes them Possible"
I'm learning that we don't have to cross our bridges alone. He is always with us, we just have to take that first step and he will see us to the otherside.
The truth about bridges is this: they exist because someone believed connection was worth the risk of building over troubled waters. They stand as testaments to determination to reach the other side, to refuse isolation, keep moving forward, even when the crossing feels overwhelming.
Today, I choose to see my transitions not as menacing and uncertain but as bridges—purposeful passages leading toward new growth, new possibility, and renewal. I may not know exactly what awaits, but I know Who holds the blueprint. And with faith and the support of those who walk alongside me, I can take the first step forward.
Bridges are just part of our journey.
